I want to clear up exactly what these 75 ex military officers "lied" about.
As noted in my handout, I provided ample information to thier motive as to bend the truth in thier favor. Many of these ex officers, as I stated would stand to personally benefit from continuing military efforts in Iraq as they had military contracts or sat on boards that had military contracts that were contingent on the militarization on Iraq.
Something I omitted for my presentation which I wanted to verbally convey to you all was what exactly was done that would be considered a lie. I will provide this now.
A report that ground soldiers were improperly outfitted with body armor made the news. Pentagon records show that there was deliberate planning on thier part to counter act this with ex military testimony that spoke to the effectiveness with their outfitted armor. This was deliberate, it was not true, the testimonial was indeed said to counteract the lack of proper outfits for soldiers.
Additionally, emails between members of the Bush administration and John C. Garret, a retired military officer who provided testimony to news outlets, showed that Garret communicated with the administration before an address in January 2007 and asked, "Please let me know if you have any specific points you want covered or that you would prefer to downplay"
These is obviously not all of the documented occurrences but I would argue , some of the most egregious occurrences of "lying"
I understand the restraint someone might show when approaching this but I am comfortable saying that these examples are clear indicators that lying occurred.
